When it comes to DNS, there's nothing we love more - except DNS management. And maybe Secondary DNS. Or Failover. Even anomaly detection. Oh who are we kidding, if it's even remotely close to the topic of DNS, we got you covered!

Fully-customized DNS configurations

Constellix DNS joins Constellix’s growing suite of features as the most accurate geo-DNS service in the world.

Developed by the same engineers who created the widely successful DNS Made Easy, Constellix DNS breaks the boundaries of normal DNS. Currently boasting the world’s most accurate geo-DNS, users are able to specify queries with the highest level of granularity for a fully-customized DNS configuration.

“We took the best of DNS Made Easy, and combined it with years of feedback and requests for new features,” says President of Constellix Steven Job. “After years of perfecting and revamping, we’re excited to announce the Beta release of Constellix DNS.”

Both Constellix DNS and Sonar are available for free during their Beta period with a DNS Made Easy membership. Constellix DNS currently operates through 14 points of presence (POP), with two more coming soon to Amsterdam and Singapore.

Geo-DNS

Constellix DNS’s innovative geo-DNS services are built upon the elite platform of: GeoIP services and the Global Traffic Director (GTD). Together these features provide users with the highest level of granularity that no other service in the world can provide. Users are able to specify rules by IP (using GeoIP services) and region (with GTD).

The GeoIP Services are configured through the use of GeoIP Filters and GeoIP Proximity rules which can be defined on a per record basis. These GeoDNS based responses are centered on an IP to location lookup that is done in real time. One of the many tools which users can manipulate is the ability to specify how users can access their site. For example: if a user is experiencing DDoS attacks from a particular network, the user can redirect queries from this region to a different IP address, or even altogether exclude them from accessing the site by dropping the DNS request and not providing a response.

Paired with the Global Traffic Director, users are able to channel traffic flow to the closest possible regional server. This reduces site latency, increases uptime, and improves end-user experience. With the combination of both services (GTD and GeoIP) Constellix clients are able to receive the highest granularity of DNS answers in the industry.

There are also numerous benefits for optimizing DNS Failover with the Constellix GeoDNS services. Through customizing its many features, users can boost performance, increase redundancy, and easily redirect traffic in the event of an outage, all without having to install any additional hardware or software.

Weighted Round Robin and Pools

One of the most requested features from DNS Made Easy which our engineers brought over to Constellix DNS is Weighted Round Robin and Pools. These have become crucial features for all businesses large or small: responsible for maintaining 100% uptime for hundreds of thousands of DNS Made Easy clients.

With Constellix DNS, users can have up to 256 different servers per pool which allows their administrators to distribute traffic equally, weighted, or in any combination! “Using GTD services with the Constellix Pools some of our beta users have distributed traffic over 1,000 public IPs worldwide,” says Job. Paired with Constellix DNS’s easy-to-use interface for manipulating pools, users can rapidly switch between IP addresses and move traffic from facility to facility without hassle.

And now users can automate their query reporting using a brand new feature called Real-Time Statistics (RTS). With RTS, users can readily view where queries are spiking by:

  • Domain
  • Resource Record
  • Location
  • Time Frame

However, RTS goes a step further with diagnostics that help users discover why there’s an influx of queries in particular regions with in-depth analysis. According to Job, “RTS can foresee an impending DNS attack and expose potential vulnerabilities to the user’s domains.”
